So, I got a question, during our preview call, that made me pause & wonder… as all the best questions do! A dear, wise friend asked if there was a syllabus during, you know, our live Preview meeting!
Real time truth… “No.” Actual response… “I’ll email you!” This followed by a night of musing and dreaming. The first thing I realized was that this whole adventure feels so natural and intuitive for me – and I’m used to surprises along the road, while syllabus felt a bit concrete. AND, I totally get hoping for one! (Yep! It’s a #Filters thing!) What follows is my version of what to expect and how to plan! Like a road map!
We’ll meet, live on Zoom, for 6 weeks, on Thursdays, 3-4:30pm ET, beginning on October 23 – skipping Nov. 27 for US Thanksgiving Day, and completing December 4. Everything will be recorded for viewing in your world.
Think of this journey like building a home! From excavating to finishing personal touches… all intentionally!
(See below for supplies…)
Weeks 1 & 2 will be primarily structural info about the #Filters model. We’ll explore all the individual Filters, as we begin to sketch our diagram which will become the foundation for our journey, and journaling strategies. Lots of time for questions! (And Grammy’s MetaMod Wisdom Cards!)
Weeks 3 & 4 will be the beginning of symbolic work on our model, including the practice of one-line beings. (If you already have favorite symbols, start your list, now!) We’ll also dive deep into Next Right Things!
Weeks 5 & 6 will be deeper painting. This is where we claim our most precious goals and tools, in images… and in words.
And, no… you absolutely don’t have to believe you’re an artist!!!
Suggested supplies:
*Journal & writing implement of your choice. Handwritten is a neurological advantage but, as we say around here, you do you!
*Canvas (wrapped) or sturdy painting surface of your choice. A wood panel will work. Even a piece of sanded furniture with a fairly good sized surface! Aim for at least 18×24 inches. The sky’s the limit! (I’ll be working on a wrapped canvas of about 24×36 or 30×40 inches so it will be big enough for you to see on the videos.) Michael’s, Dick Blick, & Jerry’s ArtaRama have frequent sales… you’ll want your painting supplies by week two!
*Acrylic paints… Golden or Liquitex fluid paints are good choices. White, black, red, blue & yellow are a good start for mixing colors and you can get “sets”. If you have heavy body paint, we can make that work. Acrylic wall paint works, too! Even chalkboard paint for a base, if you’re working on wood or walls! Again… you do you!
*Brushes… a fine liner brush, a big, scrubby one, and a couple of in-between ones. Rags are helpful. And, one of my new fav tools… plastic bags! Like the kind from the grocery store. I’ll show you a super simple way to add interest with them! Hardware store “chip” brushes are cheap and great for big, sweep-y marks, though they don’t last a long time. If you need more guidance, ask me!
*Something to support your canvas. An easel if you have one. A table. You can put a nail in the wall and paint there, though that can be messy. I paint on an easel for demo work. Most of my “personal” work happens on a metal-topped table that rolls. (It’s an accessibility thing!) Drop cloths, as desired. I use Castile soap for washing brushes. A small bucket is handy for that.
Depending on the experience level of the group and whether we encounter detours on our journey, there may be a couple of bonus, pre-recorded, painting videos to fill in any gaps in our group time, accessible via video, just like our recorded group sessions.
This is the work of my big promise. Literally, my NO KINGS work. I’ve got you!

ps… the first 22 people who sign up will get a set of Grammy’s MetaMod Wisdom Cards for FREE! (This really, really IS my NO KINGS work!)
